Singapore private school course application process and precautions

There are two main schemes administered by CPE – the Industry-Wide Course (IWC) fee insurance under the Enhanced Registration Framework (ERF) and the Fee Protection Scheme (FPS) under the EduTrust Certification Scheme.

The purpose of these schemes is to protect the unconsumed course fees paid by students in the event that a PEI is unable to continue operating.

So how do you apply for these private school programs? What documents need to be prepared and how much time will it take? This article answers them one by one for you.

1, Pre-Course Counselling:Prospective Students will go through Pre-Course Counselling with approved course counsellors. They will explain the Programme details, Fee Protection Scheme, Refund Policy, Appeal procedures and other relevant information.

2, Course Application:International Students will be required to submit the documents below for evaluation:

a.    A duly completed Student application form.

b.    Copies of ALL academic qualifications and transcripts

c.    Proof of English language proficiency (if applicable)

d.    Copy of student’s valid travel document (showing bio-data information)

e.    Copy of the birth certificate

f.     Recent passport-sized photograph (white background) or scanned copy in JPEG file size 400 x 514 with white background.

g.    Proof of Financial Support, if applicable(At least S$20,000)

h.    Proof of payment of Application Fee (non-refundable).

(Note: For documents in languages other than English needs to provide official translation。2,The submitted documents need to be prepared and brought to Singapore for inspection when collecting the student card at ICA。3,If the student is under the age of 18, a guardian is required to sign)

3,School Issuance Letter of Offer (LOO)shall evaluate the application and, after confirming that the applicant meets the minimum entry requirement, issue the Letter of Offer (LOO) to the prospective student. Students will need to sign and return the Acceptance of Offer Letter Form.

4,School applies for Student Pass from ICA: Upon receipt of the signed Acceptance of Offer Letter, school shall submit the Student Pass application via Singapore ICA SOLAR+ system. A S$30 Application processing fee is payable to ICA.

5,Sign Student ContractSchool shall proceed with the signing of the Advisory Note and Student Contract with the approved student. The student needs to sign two original copies of the student contract for the course admission. For a student below 18 years of age, the Advisory Note and Student contract has to be signed by his/her parent or legal guardian.

6,Fee Payment: Save the proof of payment and submit it to the school

7, International students prepare for going to Singapore:Including buying air tickets, finding accommodation, etc. Private schools in Singapore generally do not provide accommodation. Students need to rent their own houses in the open market. Commonly used rental platforms in Singapore include propertygurugroup and 99. Those under the age of 18 need to sign a contract with their guardians.   

8,Arrival Singapore and Formalities for Collection of Student Pass

  • Make travel arrangements & arrive in Singapore.
  • Upon Arrival, medical test, vaccination booster dose, If applicable & update vaccination status.
  • Report to the College, sign all the necessary documents & verify the originality of the submitted documents.
  • Uploading of required documents to the ICA website
  • Payment of ICA charges & Booking of E-appointment or Walk-in to complete the formalities, including biometrics enrolment and providing contact information.

Note, it takes about 45 days from 1 to 8, but it depends on the situation of the individual and the school
